Farmers of Maharashtra’s Waigaon have received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for organically grown turmeric that is rich in curcumin and also known for many health benefits. Waigaon Haldi is a widely popular turmeric variety of Vidarbha, Maharashtra. The specific characteristics of Waigaon Haldi are pungent odour, dark mustard yellow colour, concentric rings on wet stem, curcumin oil is above 6 per cent and when crushed manually it is about 8 per cent. It has higher curcumin oil content. This particular variety of turmeric has unique taste, rich in oil content, pleasant aroma, and medicinal value.
